Chapter Eighty: Jiang Qingran was right

would I dare let my little treasure, my sweetheart, suffer such hardship But you also know, this Huā Wǎn...we can't afford to mess with either of them!"He swallowed nervously, and after finishing hi...Outside the door, the sounds of Zhong Yu Xuan and Ren Xiaoya talking could be heard. They were unintelligible, but from their tone, it was clear that Ren Xiaoya, who was usually lively and cheerful, seemed a bit angry.

向晚 opened her hands, looking at the thin calluses on her palms. She suddenly smiled, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.

At half past five in the afternoon, Xiangyu came over carrying a bunch of things she liked to eat. "I ran to several stores and queued for an entire afternoon before I could buy them. Eat more."

He put everything on the table, handed her a pair of chopsticks and a disposable lunch box, then picked up a bottle of white wine and placed it on the table.

"Why did you suddenly feel like having a drink" her brother didn't usually like alcohol, finding it too bitter, so she just asked casually.

Xiang Yu pressed down on the restlessness in his heart, poured himself a small glass of white wine, and drank it all in one gulp, "I just wanted to have some."

He wasn't wearing a suit jacket or tie, his shirt buttons were undone at the top two, revealing his collarbone and glimpses of his chest muscles.

When he drank, his movements became more pronounced. His shirt was slightly unbuttoned, revealing a scratch from his right collarbone to just below his jaw.

"What's with the mark on your neck" Xiang Wan put down her chopsticks, frowning slightly.

向宇 was startled and quickly tugged at his collar, then hurriedly put on a suggestive look. "You saw it, so what You're all grown ups, can't you figure it out"

"Brother," Xiang Wan stared at him, her eyes dark and deep.

Toward Yu scratched his neck and mumbled, "You've been in jail for two years, how come you're like a different person"

"Don't change the subject," said Xiang Wan.

Xiang Yu was so angry that he could hardly contain himself, and had long wanted to find someone to vent to.

He slammed his chopsticks down on the table and dramatically recounted everything that had happened today.

In the end, he gritted his teeth and drank a cup of white wine, yelling in a suppressed voice: “I actually thought Dad was really going to fight for you, damn it! It’s infuriating!”

"Jiang Qingran is right." Xiangwan's eyes flashed a trace of gloom as she said in a low voice.

Xiang Yu listened, bewildered. "Hmm"

"You don't really understand why Dad changes his face so quickly, do you" Xiang Wan chuckled sarcastically. "Because Jiang Qingran is right, Dad said that all those words have always been fueled by anger from being suppressed, but more importantly, he wants the Jiang family to know that he doesn't have it easy either."

That's why Jiang Qingran used the playground project to appease her father's anger... Hmph, she had never thought before that one day her father would use the harm she had suffered to gain benefits.

Towards the end, Xiang Yu’s expression shifted constantly. Finally, his face turned ashen gray as he picked up a bottle of alcohol and poured it into his mouth, tears mixing with the liquor and flowing down his cheeks.

"Don't drink so much, you'll feel sick." Xiang Wan snatched the bottle of alcohol away and placed it on the table. Her heart felt like it was being burned by sulfuric acid, instantly riddled with holes, aching to the point of suffocation.

"Why are you doing this, WanWan" Xiang Yu pounded his heart, choking back sobs. "Your parents used to love you so much, how come they suddenly... just became like this"

Towards the end, Xiang Wan took out a few tissues and wiped the wine and tears from his face. "You've been gone for too long, go back. Mom, Dad, and your sister-in-law will be worried."

"I'm not going back! I told the old man when I left this morning, I'm never going back home again!" Xiang Yu didn't usually drink much, his eyes were already a little blurry, "That heartless house, I don't ever want to go back there again!"

"Yue wan sighed softly, "If you don't go back, what will happen to your sister-in-law and the two children Brother, you are already an adult, don't be so impulsive."

"Mother Lin and Father Jiang, they... burp... they could believe that Jiang Qingran, that manipulative bitch, Parents... how... how could they not..." Xiang Yu didn't finish his sentence before he collapsed onto the table, letting out a snore.

Toward the end of her bed, Xiang Wan got up and, bearing the pain in her legs, somewhat laboriously carried him to the bedside table, covering him with a blanket.

From all the strenuous labor she'd done in prison and at the dream asylum, her arms had become strong.

She took a few tissues and, in Xiang Yu's soft murmurs, wiped away the tears on his face. Then she walked out of the ward unsteadily, stood by the corridor window, and stared blankly into the distance.

Night fell, black as a lurking beast, and the jagged tree shadows became its limbs, reaching out with claws to grab her.

"Injured and still standing out there, your leg doesn't want to work"

A refreshingly familiar voice, coming from behind her, sent a shiver down A-Wan's spine. Her body froze instantly, as if plunged into an ice cellar, her limbs stiff with cold.

She turned to He Hantian, lowering her head and saying, "Mr. He."

How could he be here

He gave a light hum, his nonchalant gaze falling on her injured right leg. His brows furrowed slightly, then he said nothing more.

His gaze was tangible, like that golf club from before, striking inch by inch upon Xiang Wan's legs.

A sheen of sweat glistened on her nose, her butterfly-like eyelashes trembling slightly. The words 'Is there something the matter' hovered on her tongue for an eternity, yet she couldn't utter a single syllable.

She hated Jiang Qifeng and Jiang Qingran, and she also hated He Hanchuan. But toward the latter, besides hate, there was more fear, a bone-deep fear.

"If you don't want your legs anymore, just tell me directly. There's no need for all this trouble." He Hanchuan retracted his gaze and let out a light snort.

"No." Xiangwan licked her dry lips, sweat trickling down her cheeks, "It was too stuffy in the ward, I just came out to open the window, I'm going back to rest now."

She turned and walked to the front of the ward. She opened the window and was about to open the door when she stopped—

The people behind her followed closely, now standing at the door of the ward.

"Manager He... is there something the matter" Xiang Wan lowered her head, her uneven short hair covering the scar at the corner of her brow, only revealing her pale face.

He lowered his gaze to watch her hair curl, he paused for a moment, "I'm a little thirsty, I'll go inside for some water."

"I'm so sorry, the dinner was too salty tonight, and I drank all the hot water we had." Xiang Wan clutched at her clothes nervously, her back already damp.

She had told He Hanchuan, right in front of him, that she was cutting off all ties with her brother. Yet now, her brother lay in her hospital room.

She didn't care what would happen to the Wangs, but she didn't want to drag her brother down.

He raised an eyebrow and chin, forcing her to look at him.

Towards the end of her statement, she was forced to look into his bottomless eyes. Her body trembled slightly, unable to control itself.

Even looking at him, she couldn't guess what he was thinking, and the unknown terrified her.

"A-chan," he pinched her chin and suddenly leaned in closer.

His handsome face gradually enlarged before her eyes, she could even see the fine hairs on his face.

Her heart suddenly raced, as if it were about to burst from her chest. She dared not look at him any longer, lowering her gaze and taking a step back with her right foot, trying to create distance between them.

Suddenly, Kankawa's hand landed on her waist, gripping it tightly and pulling her closer to him.

Their bodies were pressed tightly together, her softness against his hardness, inexplicably alluring and ambiguous, yet still unable to conceal the indifference in his eyes and the panic in hers.
